BCHL and Vancouver Canucks Alumni announce six scholarship recipients

The BCHL and the Vancouver Canucks Alumni have announced six winners for the BCHL Canucks Alumni Scholarship Program for the 2023-24 season.

The program, which has been in place since 1987, is designed to provide former BCHL players with scholarship funds as they continue their academic and hockey careers.

The recipients of the scholarships are determined by a selection committee from the BCHL, based on the individual’s academics, hockey and community service.

This year’s winners are:

Jackson Doucet – University of Regina (Alberni Valley Bulldogs)
Will Dow-Kenny – Skidmore College (Chilliwack, Vernon, Langley, Coquitlam)
Buddy Johnson – Simon Fraser University (Surrey Eagles)
Sam Schofield – University of Victoria (Salmon Arm, Cowichan Valley)
Ryan Tattle – University of Connecticut (Coquitlam Express)
Ben Ward – Simon Fraser University (Merritt Centennials)

“The BCHL prides itself on advancing our athletes to the next level and setting them up for success on and off the ice,” said BCHL Commissioner Steven Cocker. “This scholarship program is a great way to continue giving back to our players as they work to achieve their hockey and educational goals. We thank the Vancouver Canucks Alumni for supporting this initiative for the past 37 years.”

This year’s winners will each receive $2,500 in scholarship funds to go toward their education.

“The Vancouver Canucks Alumni continue to be proud of our long-standing relationship with the BCHL,” said John Grisdale, Canucks Alumni Scholarship Chair. “We extend our congratulations to this year’s scholarship recipients and look forward to learning of their academic and athletic endeavours.”
